Note
that you can't get to the schoolhouse from the new highway.
May 9th - Saturday: SLOW JAM (Second Saturday) from 1-3 PM. 314 East Second St.
attic (up the long driveway and up the back stairs.) For any interested folk
musicians. All experience levels welcome, including raw beginners. We may go
over a piece more than once.
Bring music or chords if you have them and share a little of what you are working
on. There will not be an audience. We just go round in a circle picking a
favorite tune, and others try to join in. Perfection not even considered! Come
join us.
May 16th: Saturday: CONTRA DANCE with music by the Under the Wire and calling
by Emily Faulkner, at the Old Blaine Schoolhouse (Corner of Eid and Blaine
Roads). Potluck dinner 6:30, dancing at 7:30 PM.
This will be our first dance out at the lovely old Blaine Schoolhouse for the
season. As if hanging out at the schoolhouse on a spring evening weren't enough
fun, there will be a potluck meal together, then we'll dance away the evening to Under the Wire with calling by
Emily Faulkner! This awesome band is made up of John McInturff on fiddle, a
long time staple of contra dance bands in this area. You've heard his masterful
fiddle playing with the Hired Hands band and more recently with Coyote Hill;
amazing multi-instrumentalist, Gretta Hodapp, will be playing banjo, concertina
and perhaps some whistle this time around; David Christian from Captain Ludd's
Rant and Barefoot Saturday will provide the rhythm guitar; and holding
everything together on bass will be special guest Micheal Gifford, driving all
the way down from Canada just to join us for this dance. You all heard Micheal
last month when he was here with the River City Ramblers. Tina Hilding will be
off with her daughter becoming a newly minted grandmother. As ever with our
first dance at the schoolhouse, we could use a couple of extra folks to show up
a little early to help with sweeping up and chasing spiders out of the
outhouse. We'll see you there!
Note that there have been changes to highway 95 since last year, you'll want to plan ahead and avoid the new highway.
You
can find a map to the schoolhouse at our website, palousefolk.org under "Venues",
or in one of our newsletters in the bin on the Moscow Coop bulletin board. Remember
that if you are taking highway 95, you must leave the highway just south of Moscow
if you're coming from the north, or near thorn creek if you are coming from the
south and take the old road, now called Reisenauer road. The new highway does
not connect to Eid road! Beginner? No problem- Arrive at 7:30 and there are
free lessons.
No Partner? No worry. There are lots of dancers - many would like to dance with
you. All dances are taught. Singles, families & beginners are always welcome.
Children are always FREE
Free dance lessons at 7:30, 8-10:30 Dance. Admission: $10 for members, $12 for
non-members, students $8 and new dancers get in for $5.
Not a PFS Event but way cool: Don't forget the 53rd annual Moscow Renaissance
Fair, this coming weekend, May 2nd and 3rd in East City Park. There'll be music
and food and crafts, and yes, maypole dancing on both days! Its the weekend
when all the folkies emerge from their winter hibernation. Come be a part of
it!
Also not a PFS Event: If you're not a dancer but enjoy groovy folk music...
Nordic Folk in the Palouse: Internationally touring Swedish singer-songwriter
