January 12th: Sunday: Caller's Workshop - If you've ever had the urge to call a contra dance, this is your opportunity to learn the technique. We'll be getting together with some experienced callers to work on some new dances and practice some old ones, and would be delighted to get you started. No experience necessary. We have cue cards for some simple dances. We'll hope for enough participants to make a very short contra line. Anybody that would like to come and help dance is also welcome. Sunday January 12th from 7 to 9 pm. In the Attic studio, at 314 East 2nd St. (Up the long driveway to the back, and up the outside stairs to the attic.) This is the 2nd house up from the Public Library on 2nd St. The city parking lot on the corner of 2nd and Jefferson is open on weekends. Please let us know if you plan to attend, that way we'll know if we have enough people to make it work. You can send an email to radavich@moscow.com. Thanks. See you there!
January 18th: Saturday: CONTRA DANCE with music by Frogtown Wire and calling by a host of local callers, at the 1912 Center (Corner of 3rd St and Van Buren in Moscow). 7:30 PM.
The local band, Frogtown, is a relatively new one for us at our dances. They play a variety of music from around the world, so we're in for a treat. The band features Janet Anders on flute and penny whistle, Nancy Holmes on fiddle, Cleve Yocum with his concertinas and Tim Hatten and his piano accordion. The rhythm section is made up of Tim Cavileer on guitar and Bob Chenoweth on bodhran, bones and assorted percussion. The name Frogtown is a nod to an old moscow neighborhood at the bottom of Morton street near Hogg Creek. This part of town was known for its sawmill and the cacophony of frogs that emanated from the creek on a warm summer's evening. It'll be a lively dance with great music and calling by a variety of local callers. We'll see you there!
In keeping with the times, masks and vaccines are optional. At this time few are wearing masks on our dance floor, and we love to see you if you are healthy, mask or no mask. If you are sick, or have been recently, or have potentially vulnerable folks at home, we would urge you to avoid coming to the dance. As we trust you know, it is quite possible Covid can be at any close public event such as this one.
Beginner? No problem- Arrive at 7:30 and there are free lessons.
No Partner? No worry. There are lots of dancers - many would like to dance with you.
All dances are taught. Singles, families & beginners are always welcome. Children are always FREE
