June 14th and 28th -Saturdays: SLOW JAMS
(Second and fourth Saturdays) from 1-3 PM. 314 East Second St. attic (up the
long driveway and up the back stairs.) For any interested folk musicians. All
experience levels welcome, including raw beginners. We may go over a piece more
than once.
Bring music or chords if you have them and share a little of what you are
working on. There will not be an audience. We just go round in a circle picking
a favorite tune, and others try to join in. Perfection not even considered!
Come join us.
June 21st: Saturday: CONTRA DANCE with music
by Frogtown and calling by Kelsey Hartman, at the Old Blaine Schoolhouse
(Corner of Eid and Blaine Roads). Potluck dinner 6:30, dancing at 7:30 PM.
The local band, Frogtown, is a relatively new
one for us at our dances. They play a variety of music from around the world,
so we're in for a treat. The band features Janet Anders on flute and penny
whistle, Nancy Holmes on fiddle and Cleve Yocum with his concertinas providing
the melodies, along with Tim Cavileer on guitar and Bob Chenoweth on bodhran,
bones and assorted percussion providing the rhythms. The name Frogtown is a nod
to an old Moscow neighborhood at the bottom of Morton street near Hogg Creek.
This part of town was known for its sawmill and the cacophony of frogs that
emanated from the creek on a warm summer's evening. As if that weren't enough,
Kelsey Hartman is making her way up here from her home in California to call
for us. Kelsey has a wealth of experience calling around the San Francisco bay
area and beyond, and has a knack for picking dances which flow with the energy
and the joy of the music. Summer solstice! We'll see you there!
In keeping with the times, masks and vaccines
are optional. At this time few are wearing masks on our dance floor, and we
love to see you if you are healthy, mask or no mask. If you are sick, or
have been recently, or have potentially vulnerable folks at home, we would urge
you to avoid coming to the dance. As we trust you know, it is quite
possible Covid can be at any close public
event such as this one.
You can find a map to the schoolhouse at our
website, palousefolk.org, or in one of our newsletters in the bin on the Moscow
Coop bulletin board.
Beginner? No problem- Arrive at 7:30 and there
are free lessons.
No Partner? No worry. There are lots of dancers - many would like to dance with
you. All dances are taught. Singles, families & beginners are always
welcome. Children are always FREE
Free dance lessons at 7:30, 8-10:30 Dance. Admission: $10 for members, $12 for
