(Second and fourth Saturdays) from 1-3 PM. 314 East Second St. attic (up the
long driveway and up the back stairs.) For any interested folk musicians. All
experience levels welcome, including raw beginners. We may go over a piece more
than once.
Bring music or chords if you have them and share a little of what you are
working on. There will not be an audience. We just go round in a circle picking
a favorite tune, and others try to join in. Perfection not even considered!
Come join us.
May 11th: Sunday: Workshop for Caller's and
Newer Dancers - If you've ever had the urge to call a contra dance, this is
your opportunity to learn the technique. We'll be getting together with
some experienced callers to work on some new dances and practice some old ones,
and would be delighted to get you started. No experience
necessary. We have cue cards for some simple dances. We'll hope for
enough participants to make a very short contra line. Anybody that would
like to come and help dance is also welcome. This is a wonderful
opportunity for folks who are new to contra dancing to learn the basics in a
low key environment. This also gives our callers a chance to work on their
teaching skills. Sunday May 11th from 7 to 9 pm. In the Attic studio, at 314
East 2nd St. (Up the long driveway to the back, and up the outside stairs to
the attic.) This is the 2nd house up from the Public Library on 2nd
St. The city parking lot on the corner of 2nd and Jefferson is open on
weekends. Please let us know if you plan to attend, that way we'll know if
we have enough people to make it work. You can send an email to radavich at
moscow.com. Thanks. See you there!
May 17th: Saturday: CONTRA DANCE with music
by Banna Damhsa and calling by Emily Faulkner, at the Old Blaine Schoolhouse
(Corner of Eid and Blaine Roads). Potluck dinner 6:30, dancing at 7:30 PM.
Wow! Our first dance of the season at the old
Blaine Schoolhouse, and to the music of Banna Damhsa with Emily Faulkner
calling. Now that's a wonderful way to start off the summer dancing season. So
come on out and share in some lively dancing at this lovely old treasure on the
palouse, the blaine schoolhouse. And the roads should be open, so there's no
reason to not join in the fun. Banna Damhsa is a wonderful band from Coeur d’Alene.
Their musical focus is decidedly Celtic – Irish, Scottish, French, Canadian
jigs, reels, strathspeys, waltzes and more. This band features the fiddle
playing of Jan Clizer, the guitar and mandolin energy of Dave Beach, guitar and
bodhran by Char Beach, and various added percussion by both of these folks and
Brent Edwards with his flute and whistles. This may well be the last time that
we get to hear this amazing band, as Dave and Char are moving away this summer.
You won’t want to miss this opportunity to dance to their music. Emily will
make the trip down from Sandpoint again this month to call for us. She brought
along some wonderful dance last month. This month promises to be just as much
fun... you'll want to there!
In keeping with the times, masks and vaccines
are optional. At this time few are wearing masks on our dance floor, and we
love to see you if you are healthy, mask or no mask. If you are sick, or
have been recently, or have potentially vulnerable folks at home, we would urge
you to avoid coming to the dance. As we trust you know, it is quite possible
Covid can be at any close public event such as this one.
You can find a map to the schoolhouse at our
website, palousefolk.org, or in one of our newsletters in the bin on the Moscow
Coop bulletin board.
Beginner? No problem- Arrive at 7:30 and
there are free lessons.
No Partner? No worry. There are lots of dancers - many would like to dance with
you. All dances are taught. Singles, families & beginners are always
welcome. Children are always FREE
Free dance lessons at 7:30, 8-10:30 Dance. Admission: $10 for members, $12 for
non-members, students $8 and new dancers get in for $5.
Not a PFS Event but way cool: Don't forget
the 52nd annual Moscow Renaissance Fair, this coming weekend, May 3rd and 4th
in East City Park. There'll be music and food and crafts, and yes, maypole
dancing on both days! On saturday look for music by Wildgrass, the Chelseas and
Yellow Dog Flats amongst others.
